It was my pleasure to stop by Bend Sinister’s jam space recently to snap a few photos of the Vancouver-based band while they were filming the music video for their first single “Fancy Pants” off their new album, Animals, which is set to release in March of next year.
While visiting I was able to get an early listen of the album, and I must say it’s very impressive. It’s a creation from the bands’ trip to San Diego earlier this year, produced by Joe Marlett who has worked with bands such as Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age. Described by bassist Matt Rhode as “majestic 70′s infused rock’n’roll with a side of fur and tie dye”, their poppy upbeat vibe indeed sounds more like a mix of the Beatles and Queen than anything in todays music scene. The feel in their jam space follows suit – bright colours, lots of fur and big smiles decorate the area. You can really see that each member has a unique place within the band, and are all very passionate about what they do.
The band is playing this Friday night a the Vogue theatre with a handful of other local talent in collaboration with Keep a Breast Canada , a cause that supports healthy boobies and art; I can get on board with that! Checkout info for the event here and get yourself a ticket for a good evening of magical Bend Sinister tunes and to support great cause! In the meantime, you can read more about the album release and see some upcoming tour dates through this article by Alex Hudson on exclaim.ca. and have a listed to the fun first release, “Fancy Pants”.
